"I ain't scared of vaccination"
In response to an outbreak of measles in Guinea, ALIMA provided support to a Ministry of Health-led mass vaccination campaign, in the southeastern N'Zerekore region. In March 2017, thanks to funding from ECHO, more than 148,000 children were vaccinated.
Below are some moments, captured by photographer Nick Loomis, of government health workers administering the life-saving vaccine. Their faces represent the fact that despite momentary discomfort, these kids will never contract the deadly virus. Additionally, less than two years ago, health workers and authorities were widely mistrusted and even thought to be the source of the Ebola epidemic. Today, parents are bringing their children to those same actors to ensure that they don’t get sick.
Many of the children dreaded the needle and none enjoyed the moment of the injection, but all walked away with a smile.
